People Living In Storage
A MAN who found himself homeless decided to live out of a storage unit for two months to save money.
Youtube user 007craft posted a video to his channel explaining how he managed to live out of a storage container for two months; building shelves and contraptions to make the tiny space liveable.

After returning from hiking the Pacific Crest Trail on America's West Coast he was left homeless as he'd given up his apartment before going on his trip.
He said: "I wanted to turn my car into a liveable space, but found I still needed access to lots of stuff from my storage unit which was 6x4x10 and everything was just jammed in there.
"I figured there had to be a better way. I scoped out a 10x10x6 unit and moved all my stuff inside. Still super small, I managed to build shelves and organise it in a way where everything is accessible."

"But why stop there! I decided to build shelves and a water system and setup my actual apartment so I could live there.
"I was moving in! I ended up living in the unit for around two months. I only spent around $100 making the space as efficient as I did, mostly because I already owned so much hardware."
The YouTuber explains the cost of the unit was only $205 a month including insurance, which he added was a bargain, considering an apartment in the area was over $1,000 a month.

Explaining how he managed to stay in the storage unit undetected, he said: "You basically need to be a ghost, if anybody finds out you're here that's when start running into trouble.
"I needed power... I ran an extension cord along the power cable and I zip tied it up, so you can't really see power is going to my unit unless you're looking closely."

He fashioned antenna to the door of the unit to be able to get signal on his phone when inside and a magnetic lock outside of the unit to make it look as though it is locked.
Inside the small space, the man managed to cram in all his essentials for daily life, including a bed, TV, entertainment centre.

There was a kitchen area complete with a fridge, a toaster oven, pots and pans and other kitchen utensils.
There was even space for a toaster, a food cupboard, filing cabinet, tools and storage.
To boil water, the clever money saver had a hot plate.
On the back of the door the man had installed a latch so he could lock the unit from the inside. He attached a mirror to the inside of the door.

The man even fashioned his own sink using a bucket and a container with tubes attached to it for running water: "This is the sink I built, it's basically a 25 litre container I've filled with water. I've attached these tubes so you just open it up and then the water comes down this tube and out.
"So you've got running water, you can do dishes and get a drink of water."
Small holes in the bucket go into a funnel and then filters into another container ready to be emptied.

He usually only needs to refill the container once a week.
Above the bed, he built a bar to hold his "liquor and drinks."
He built a hinge in order to be able to move the shelf to access storage behind the bed.
A clothing rack and more storage areas line the walls.

"All the stuff I've built is all built basically hanging from the ceiling."
His shoes, games and other bits and bobs are stored in the ceiling.
The lighting system can be turned on and off with a smart phone app or a wireless switch; which his wireless internet is also connected to.
"Everything is placed in an area where I know how to get to it and it's quite convenient living here actually, I even have a paper towel holder. I have all the amenities you'd find in an apartment just in a very tiny space.

"I built everything so I'm ready to access everything and I don't have to waste time."
He added the only thing he's missing is a washer and dryer, but that's not a problem as he's able to go to the launderette.
The man has fashioned a funnel to be able to collect water from the storage centre's water fountain.
The Youtuber explains he is moving into a new apartment in three weeks and jokes he's planning on "building a rock climbing gym," in the living room.
This house looks tiny from the outside but harbours a big secret and these locations are the only ones left in Britain where you can buy a house for less than £50,000.
